Polyurethane Gaskets

Long-Lasting Gasket Material for Hydraulic, Automotive and Heavy Engineering Sectors

Polyurethane gaskets are high-performance sealing materials designed for demanding industrial environments. They are manufactured from polymers, creating a versatile elastomer that combines the flexibility of rubber with the strength of plastics. This unique chemical structure allows polyurethane (PU) to be tailored in hardness, density, and resilience, making it adaptable to a wide range of applications.

Known for their outstanding abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and resilience, polyurethane gaskets outperform many conventional rubber compounds. They can be optimised for environments requiring resistance to oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, or high levels of wear.

Available in multiple hardnesses, polyurethane gasket materials are suitable for both static and dynamic sealing applications across industries such as automotive, construction, oil and gas, and heavy engineering.

 Properties of Polyurethane Gaskets

PU gaskets offer a unique combination of mechanical and chemical properties, making them ideal for high-demand sealing applications:

  • Superior abrasion and wear resistance
  • High tensile strength and load-bearing capability
  • Excellent resilience under repeated stress and flexing
  • Resistance to oils, fuels, and hydraulic fluids
  • Lower permeability to gases compared with many rubbers

Technical Information

  • Hardness: 50A - 95A (elastomeric) and 25D - 60D (rigid)
  • Tensile Strength: 15 - 50 MPa depending on grade
  • Elongation at Break: 200% - 800%
  • Compression Set (70°C, 22h): 10% - 35%
  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +90°C (-up to 120°C short term)
  • Density: 1.1 - 1.3 g/cm³
  • Chemical Resistance: Excellent resistance to oils, fuels, and hydraulic fluids; limited resistance to strong acids, alkalis, and certain solvents
