Gasket material certification is essential in processes involving food, beverage and pharmaceuticals, with a requirement to meet strict national and international safety and hygienic regulations. In the Food and Pharmaceutical sectors, there are a range of standards that must be adhered to depending on the application. For water utility companies, the popular choice is WRAS approved, EPDM Rubber gaskets manufactured to BS 6920-1:2000 and BS 6920-1:2014 requirements, ensuring suitability for applications involving water for human consumption. FDA Food approved gaskets are often manufactured from non-toxic, white EPDM material that complies with EC 1935/2004 and FDA 21 CFR177.2600 regulation, making them safe for use in the manufacture of food and beverages, including alcohol, meat, and dairy.
Different applications have various requirements so it is vital when selecting gasket materials that their properties align with their intended usage. Nitrile is known for its exceptional resistance to animal and vegetable oils and fats, silicone for its outstanding temperature resistance; and materials based on PTFE offer excellent resistance to chemicals.
Our manufacturing processes are ISO 9001:2015 certified and we have a wealth of experience fabricating gaskets to suit a variety of food, potable water and pharmaceutical applications.
In contrast to other food-safe gaskets, metal detectable materials incorporate additives that are detectable by metal scanner equipment. This feature allows users to readily spot and eliminate any undesirable fragments or contaminants during the production processes of food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals. Reducing the likelihood of foreign objects contaminating the product or sensitive equipment helps save potential costs associated with repairing machinery or recalling and disposing of finished products that have entered the market with contamination issues.
Adhering to EC and FDA regulations for repeated use with food products, metal detectable gaskets are available in both Nitrile and Silicone. Nitrile gaskets are most commonly used in applications involving animal and vegetable oils and fats, while Silicone boasts an operating temperature range of -60°C up to +200°C and provides outstanding resistance to ozone, oxidation, and weathering, along with delivering favourable electrical insulating and release properties.
Metal detectable gasket material is easy to work with and Dobson Gaskets can fulfil any type of order, using our advanced CNC equipment to produce gaskets at any volume efficiently and quickly.
